Exodus

Chapter: 021

001 Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.
002 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.
003 If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him.
004 If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself.
005 And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free:
006 Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him for ever.
007 And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go out as the menservants do.
008 If she please not her master, who hath betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt deceitfully with her.
009 And if he have betrothed her unto his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.
010 If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
011 And if he do not these three unto her, then shall she go out free without money.
012 He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
013 And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
014 But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die.
015 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
016 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
017 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
018 And if men strive together, and one smite another with a stone, or with his fist, and he die not, but keepeth his bed:
019 If he rise again, and walk abroad upon his staff, then shall he that smote him be quit: only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed.
020 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished.
021 Notwithstanding, if he continue a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.
022 If men strive, and hurt a woman with child, so that her fruit depart from her, and yet no mischief follow: he shall be surely punished, according as the woman's husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.
023 And if any mischief follow, then thou shalt give life for life,
024 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,
025 Burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.
026 And if a man smite the eye of his servant, or the eye of his maid, that it perish; he shall let him go free for his eye's sake.
027 And if he smite out his manservant's tooth, or his maidservant's tooth; he shall let him go free for his tooth's sake.
028 If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die: then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be quit.
029 But if the ox were wont to push with his horn in time past, and it hath been testified to his owner, and he hath not kept him in, but that he hath killed a man or a woman; the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death.
030 If there be laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him.
031 Whether he have gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this judgment shall it be done unto him.
032 If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant; he shall give unto their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.
033 And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein;
034 The owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money unto the owner of them; and the dead beast shall be his.
035 And if one man's ox hurt another's, that he die; then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and the dead ox also they shall divide.
036 Or if it be known that the ox hath used to push in time past, and his owner hath not kept him in; he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

Chapter: 022

001 If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
002 If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him.
003 If the sun be risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him; for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
004 If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.
005 If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man's field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.
006 If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed therewith; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
007 If a man shall deliver unto his neighbor money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man's house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.
008 If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, to see whether he have put his hand unto his neighbor's goods.
009 For all manner of trespass, whether it be for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, or for any manner of lost thing which another challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbor.
010 If a man deliver unto his neighbor an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it:
011 Then shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbor's goods; and the owner of it shall accept thereof, and he shall not make it good.
012 And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.
013 If it be torn in pieces, then let him bring it for witness, and he shall not make good that which was torn.
014 And if a man borrow ought of his neighbor, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof being not with it, he shall surely make it good.
015 But if the owner thereof be with it, he shall not make it good: if it be an hired thing, it came for his hire.
016 And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
017 If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
018 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
019 Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.
020 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.
021 Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
022 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
023 If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;
024 And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
025 If thou lend money to any of my people that is poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.
026 If thou at all take thy neighbor's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:
027 For that is his covering only, it is his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I am gracious.
028 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.
029 Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
030 Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, and with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
031 And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat any flesh that is torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.

Mark

Chapter: 008

001 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,
002 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:
003 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.
004 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?
005 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
006 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.
007 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.
008 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.
009 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.
010 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
011 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.
012 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
013 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.
014 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.
015 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
016 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
017 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?
018 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?
019 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.
020 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And they said, Seven.
021 And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not understand?
022 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
023 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
024 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
025 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
026 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
027 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
028 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
029 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
030 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
031 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
032 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
033 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
034 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
035 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
036 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
037 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
038 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
